Neighbours and friends

On March 1, 2004 I rounded the corner onto a small side street with a 16' U-Haul truck and pulled up in front of a small house. Within an hour of unloading a British woman brought over a pan of still warm date squares. So began our relationship as neighbours. It wasn't long after that we soon became very good friends. Over the years I watched Joy tend to her dying husband and begin a new life alone after 50+ years. It was then that our relationship grew even stronger. We shared stories, tears, many laughs, a spiritual journey, food and more food. My heart breaks as does her families as we mourn Joy's passing. And even in her passing, Joy did it her way. You meant more to me then you'll ever know Joy. You were my light on some very dark days as I know I was to you. I expect after your long awaited reunion with your Jack that we'll be seeing nickles (only since pennies aren't around any more) You Joy Penny will forever be held close to my heart. And the next trip to the casino like mom will be for you.
Love you dear friend. Fly with the angels now and until we see each other again, please do give mom a big hug and have a cuppa tea for me.
