Obituary

PILLAR, SEELEY HUBERT

While a patient at the Ottawa Civic Hospital on Thursday, August 13, 2020 Seeley Pillar entered peacefully into rest at the age of 93 years. Seeley Pillar beloved husband of the late Betty Pillar (nee Doran) for 61 years (who passed away March 2019). He was the father of the late Joanne Pillar, and Tammy Clarke (Phil). Cherished Grandfather of Cassandra, Samantha, and Adam. Seeley is also survived by niece Deborah Price Sherman and sons Spencer and Bradley Marginson. Predeceased by his sister Edna Pillar Buehlow. Seeley had lived in Prescott all his married life moving to Ottawa in 2013 with Betty to be closer to their daughter and grandchildren.

Seeley worked hard (Maple Leaf Mills, Rayvals Transport, Grant Brown Funeral Home) and always made sure our home was maintained and taken care of. His work ethic was balanced with a desire for fun and laughter. He loved to play cards with friends (and a few drinks), the kitchen table full many weekends with laughter heard on the street (the more drinks, the higher the volume and the edgier the jokes). From spring to fall he and mom would pack us up and hit the road to their favourite campgrounds. He loved to walk around the sites after dinner, never hesitating to make new friends along the way, then settling into the campfire to sing songs and tell stories, often with those he’d met during our earlier walks, encouraging anyone to join our fire. These were his happiest times, and my best memories of our family. He and mom had a great love story. They built a life together based on hard work, partnership and commitment and it was clear to all that she was truly the love of his life. They enjoyed dinner out in “the Burg”, spending March in Myrtle Beach with “the gang” and many miles on the road driving to Ottawa to visit me and my family. My dad was dependable, loving, charismatic, opinionated and stubborn. He was always there when I needed him, no matter what the task, or where I lived. He loved my husband as his son, and my children with all of his heart. I was blessed to have him as a father as he taught me that love and laughter make for a full and rich life, and that a simple life can be a good life. I hope that he, mom and Joanne are together now, around a campfire and sharing stories with many who have gone ahead. I miss you all.

In keeping with the families wish there will be no visitation. A Private Family Interment will be held at Prescott Cemetery.
