Obituary

Laurence Anthony Carr passed away peacefully on December 23, 2019 at the Ottawa Heart Institute at the age of 67. After a lengthy stint in the cardiac ICU, Laurence did not fight a battle with death, but bravely embraced whatever adventure awaits beyond. On his best days, Laurence reminded us that happiness was only a soccer ball away and that if you can’t find shin guards, some rolled-up newsprint will do just fine.
Loving husband of Eva, caring father to Jennifer, Tanya (Erin), Tommy (Shannon), Natacha (Dan), Eoin (Cierra) and step-father to James and Lash. Brother of Lesley (Randy) Todd and Robert (Bonnie) Carr. Grandad to Dylan, Noah, Jayden, Gracie, Grayson and Ellis. Uncle to several nieces and nephews, friend to the Burton family. Predeceased by his parents Tom and Peggy Carr.
A huge Manchester United fan, Laurence did his best not to miss watching a match. He could often be found happily perched in front of his television yelling obscenities at the opposing team. His love for the game of soccer led him to a lifelong passion to play, coach and mentor boys and girls.
Special thanks to the nurses and doctors of the ICU at the Ottawa Heart Institute and the Brockville Dialysis Clinic for the care Laurence received.

Family and friends may pay their respects at Prescott Fire Hall 302 Centre St. Prescott, ON from 1:30 pm to 4 pm on Sunday December 29th, 2019. Donations to Prescott & District Soccer Association would be gratefully acknowledged by the family

I am so very sorry to hear about Laurence. Having just found out about his passing was a shock. Laurence and I were friends in the subdivision of “Faders” and played many sports together. Whether it was football, hockey or especially soccer Laurence was there. He was our quarterback for the not so famous “Faders Raiders” football team. He would lend me his soccer shoes to play the game. Fantastic memories. He was a great individual and team player. My sincerest condolences to the entire family.

I first met Larry when my 40 year old daughter was 5. He was her first soccer coach and taught her to love the game. My late husband and I shared many Indian dinners with Larry and lots of laughs. I was his assistant for several years as we saw our little girls grow and continue to play. My daughter became very proficient and was named to the McGill Sports Hall of Fame..all of these things were due to Larry who knew how to instill the love of the game in his young players. May he rest in peace on that perfect green pitch on the sky. My condolences to the entire family Nicole Day

Laurence had a love for soccer, but more so a love for teaching it. My son was blessed to have Laurence as a coach for summer 2019. Laurence spent time with each kid to teach and mentor them in a sport that was close to his heart. He made soccer fun for the kids, and not a job. He was proud of them, win or loose, and made sure to tell them after each game how well they did and how proud he was. He will be greatly missed on the field.
