Obituary for Virginia Angelina Drake (Waddleton)

DRAKE, VIRGINIA (1928-2021)

It is with sorrow that we announce the passing of Virginia Drake (née Waddleton) on April 28, 2021 at the Arbour Heights Long Term Care in Kingston in her ninety-third year. We express our great hope that the family members who have gone before her have already welcomed her with joy and love to the unimaginable happiness of heaven with Jesus, our Lady and the Saints. Virginia was the loving wife of Cal Drake (deceased) and mother of Brian (Joanne) Baillie of Calgary, AB. Stepmother to Kevin Drake, Stacey Symington, Janice Drake, Debbie Johnston, and Gary Drake. We wish to express condolences to each of these individuals and their families, as well as to Virginia’s surviving sisters Eileen Killeen and Leona (John) Ruckpaul, and to her many beloved nephews and nieces. She was greatly loved by them.
Born in Montreal, QC in 1928, the fourth child of Lawrence and Gladys Waddleton, and grew up in NS and NL. She entered nursing school at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital in St. John’s, NL and after graduation, served in the military as an Air Evac nurse. On leaving the service she began work at the Halifax infirmary, where she was eventually put in charge of the infirmary’s infection control unit, a position which she held until her marriage to Cal Drake many years later at the age of fifty. She and Cal moved to Brockville and then to Prescott, ON. In Prescott, Virginia was a long-time parishioner and member of the Catholic Women’s League at St. Mark Catholic Church. She spent the last four years of her life in a nursing homes in Kingston, ON. We wish to thank the loving and attentive staff members at the Arbour Heights for their excellent care in Virginia’s final months. It was greatly appreciated.

A Private Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mark Catholic Church 160 Dibble St. West Prescott, with interment to follow in St. Mark Catholic Cemetery 101 Development Drive.
