COUPERUS, SJOERD "STUART"
It is with heavy hearts we share Sjoerd (Stuart) Abraham Couperus passed away on Sunday, August 2nd, 2020 in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving wife and children. A devoted husband, Stuart leaves behind his beloved wife of 46 years, Yvonne (Touisant). Dedicated father of Cynthia (François), Jacqueline, Lisa (Jeff), Danny (Anita), Denise, Melanie (Scott) and Michelle (Terry). Wonderful grandfather to Brooke (Justin), Shelby, Taylor, Cassidy, Coleman, Holly, Ava, Haley, Joel, Gavin, Trista, Olivia, Jayden and Jacob. Great brother to his sisters Rigtje, Jill and brothers Rinke (Richard), Bram, Jouke (Joe) and Jan (John). Stuart was predeceased by his parents Abraham and Johanna (nee van der Molen) Couperus, his first wife Lucille Couperus (nee Villeneuve), a son Donald, and a sister Rinski (Rita).
Stuart was born in Leeuwarden, Netherlands and immigrated to Canada in 1950 with his family, settling in the Roebuck area. Raised on a farm Stuart learned to love the outdoors and animals. He worked at Dupont in Maitland for several years before returning to trade school to become a Millwright and spent the rest of his career at Prescott Machine and Welding working both on land and ships, travelling up and down the St. Lawrence River. A truly unselfish and kind man who loved spending his free time with his wife and family, fishing on the `Lucky C`, deer and moose hunting, golfing and barbecuing his famous prime rib. A religious man, he attended St. Mark's Roman Catholic Church and was a Grand Knight (former) of the Knights of Columbus. He will be fondly remembered by many extended family members and friends.
In keeping with the family’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A Celebration of Stuart's Life will be held at a later date.
