Obituary for Ruth Alma Boisvenue (Stephenson)

BOISVENUE, RUTH ALMA (nee STEPHENSON)

Ruth's life was a testament to her kindness and generosity. To know her was to love her.
Ruth Alma Boisvenue (nee Stephenson) passed away at the age of 89 on April 9, 2024, at Brockville General Hospital. She was the cherished wife of the late Joseph Boisvenue and leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion cherished by her children; Thomas, Mary Mykolyshyn (Stephen) and their children Angela and Jennifer, Stephen (Maureen) and their children Joseph and Hannah Post (Kyle), and Pennyann Gilliard (Rob) and their son Robert. She will be deeply missed by her sister Mary Cummings. She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Harriett Stephenson, siblings Emery (Hazel d.), Herman, William (Janie), Mildred Place (Charles d.), and Myrtle Shahan (Lorne d.). She leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, including Walter Coville who was like a brother to her.

Deeply devoted to her family, she was a woman of integrity who always tried to see the good in people. Ruth's strong work ethic and selflessness extended to every facet of her life; family, work, and charity. Behind her meek exterior was a strong woman with an impromptu sense of humour.

Ruth had a passion for the Irish music of Daniel O’Donnell and was an avid reader of the Patrick Taylor Irish Country series. She remained active, enjoying her long walks and exercise group. She was a pro Wii Golfer, and enjoyed playing bingo, knitting and rug hooking, as well as puzzle books. In retirement, her artistic talents flourished as she discovered a love for colouring and arts and crafts. She found joy in observing wildlife and nature’s beauty.

Family get-togethers were a cornerstone of Ruth's life, especially during the holiday seasons. Gatherings revolved around home cooked meals, favourite desserts, and a deck of cards that brought loads of laughter. She affectionately earned the nickname "The Assassin" at games including euchre, cribbage, joker rummy and gotcha, relishing in every victory (of which there were many).
Ruth's legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her memory will forever be cherished by her family and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff and care givers of Fox Run By The River Retirement Residence, Brockville General Hospital, and Bayshore for the wonderful care they provided. Grateful recognition to Audrey and Penny at Fox Run, and the nursing staff in the ICU for their compassionate care and support. We cannot thank you enough.

A private family service will be held with interment in St. Mark Catholic Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, you are invited to share a special memory of Ruth at www.mackayfuneralhome.com
