Obituary for Carmel Glynn

(Mary) Carmel Glynn was born in Fort William (now Thunder Bay), Ontario on July 16, 1932, to James and Anne (nee Henry) Coghlan, and grew up with sisters, Sarah, Agnes, Kitty, Margaret and brother, Jim. She was proudly working as an x-ray technician at St. Joseph’s Hospital when she met Thomas Daniel Glynn. They married July 2, 1955, and created a deeply loving home together for their five children, Mary, Tommy, Jay, Judith, and Jennifer. When they moved to Prescott in 1968, they brought the world to their home, welcoming many friends, visitors, and people in need from near and far, including several families who fled Vietnam during the refugee crisis, forming lasting, beautiful friendships with many of these families, most notably Duc and Viet, who loved Carmel as their second mother. Carmel’s tender devotion for her grandchildren, Darcy, Aaron, Benjamin, Megan, Kaitlin, Chase and great grandson Grayson included sleepovers, impromptu parties, favourite dishes, endless games and adventures, and reading wonderful stories. She is remembered as “so fashionable, a fab hostess, lover of books and action heroes.” Carmel/ mom/ grandma lived a gentle life, and died gently, peacefully on January 16, 2024, surrounded by her husband and family. We are so grateful for the 91 ½ years she spent with all of us.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Mark Catholic Church 160 Dibble St. West, Prescott, on Monday, January 22nd, 2024 at 11:00 am. Interment in St. Mark Catholic Cemetery in the spring.
