Obituary for Dorothy May Tweed

TWEED, Dorothy May.
It is with deep sadness but also with much gratitude for her long fulfilling life, that we announce the loss of our beloved mother, Dorothy May Tweed, aged 93 of Prescott, Ontario. Peacefully at the Brockville General Hospital on Saturday, October 15, 2022. Born at Forest Lawn Farm in Vankleek Hill, daughter of the late William Alexander Tweed and his wife the late Ethel Christina Tweed (nee Allen). Former wife of the late Maynard Forgie. Survived by their children Barbara Burchill (the late Bryan), Ruth Comeau (Bill Currie), Doreen Willis (Cameron), Jane Latimer (Steven), Wendy Kemp (Craig), and Darryl Forgie. Survived by her former sons-in-law Bob Leizert, Marcus Boland and Mike DiMaria. Predeceased by her former son-in-law Gary Boal. Loving grandmother of Rob Leizert, Kirk Leizert, David Burchill, Steven Burchill, Dean Boland, Jennifer Boileau (nee Burchill), Chad DiMaria, Jason Boal, Lance DiMaria, Crystal Potter (nee Boal), Morgan Willis, Kyle Willis and Kayla McCrea. Cherished great-grandmother of Jessie Clement (nee Leizert), Zayne DiMaria, Kai Boland, Kyle Boileau, Kaitlyn Burchill, Peyton Boland, Ryan Boileau, Liam Boileau, the late Kalum DiMaria, Willow DiMaria, Georgia DiMaria, Corey Potter, Cole Potter, Esme’e Boland and Coen Potter. Proud great-great grandmother of Chloe Clement and Leon Clement. Survived by her dear brother Allen Tweed (Lynn), her sister-in-law Betty Tweed (the late Arlington) and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sister Ethelyn Tweed (the late Gerald MacDuff). Dorothy had an independent spirit, enjoyed meeting new people and was incredibly resourceful. She worked hard all her life and lived it to the fullest. She started her family and farmed with Maynard at Forest Lawn Farm in Vankleek Hill, moving then to Navan, and eventually to Bishops Mills. In her later years she lived on Totem Ranch Road in Oxford Station and then moved to her last home in Prescott. She was a nursing aide and cook for many years at Fetherstonhaugh Nursing Home and also at Bayfield Manor in Kemptville. She was known for baking the best lemon rolls and pie, carrot cake, bread, biscuits and apple crumble. She made many wedding cakes for local brides. She enjoyed playing bridge and euchre with her grandchildren. She loved to travel and went many places including Nashville TN, Texas, she cruised the Caribbean, drove coast to coast across Canada and went abroad to Holland. She had a lifelong love of horses and enjoyed cueing and round dancing. She started her own round dancing club called the St. Lawrence Smoothies. In 2019 the Ontario Square and Round Dance Federation awarded her the Trillium Long Service Award for her outstanding contribution and dedication to Square and Round Dancing. A private family service will be held for immediate family only. Interment of ashes at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Maitland, ON.
