More about Don:

Don was a proud railroad man with a deep love for his family and community. Second youngest of 9 living children, he was the son of William and Grace of Blue Church Road, Augusta, Ontario. Don was the last family member of his generation.
He married the love of his life, Elizabeth “Bobo” Brennan the day that man first walked on the moon on July 21, 1969. They went on to share many great adventures from camping and travelling the continent in their immaculate Airstream trailer to snowmobiling in the backwoods during the winter months. Later on, they enjoyed visiting the Caribbean and taking several ocean cruises to Alaska, Central America and the Mediterranean. Don also took great pleasure in the annual Barton Family Reunions where family members far and wide gathered for picnics and summer fun for over 50 years.
Don was previously married to Ruth Currie of Edinburgh, Scotland with whom he had two daughters, Carol Anne and Donna Lee. Although Don and Ruth cared very much for each other, their interests and personalities took them on different paths.
Don couldn’t have chosen a better occupation; he loved the freedom of the open road and the independence of travel. A desk job was not for him. Starting out as a fireman for CPR, he worked his way up to Engineer at CN retiring in 1988 after 32 years. He thoroughly enjoyed his work and continued friendships with colleagues (many from Montreal area) in the years beyond his retirement.
Don was immensely proud of his Prescott heritage and was a stalwart of his community. In his retirement, he devoted hundreds of hours to volunteering for the Victoria Order of Nurses (VON), serving on the Sandy Hill Cemetery Board, Prescott Waste Management Committee, Community Clean Up Days, and countless hours volunteering for suppers and events at St. Paul’s United Church. He received many civic honours including Prescott Citizen of the Year in 2017.
He leaves behind daughters Carol and Donna, grandchildren Amelia Collins, Darcy Collins and Alison Rathie, along with numerous nieces and nephews to celebrate his life.
