Tom and Family:
I know there are going to be many difficult days ahead but I wanted to share a story that may warm your heart just a little. My son William required a bone transplant when he was in high school. It required many overnight stays in Toronto in preparation for the surgery as well as a week stay during the surgery and six months of check ups, therapy and much out of pocket expenses. During lunch or just passing by Alanna would often inquire about William, having taught him would certainly mean he had a place in her heart. He had walking devices and therapy 3 times a week which wasn’t fully covered. I came in one morning and checked my mail box as I routinely did and found a card with a simple hand written note that said praying for you, your guardian angel. Inside was a monetary gift that help with some the extra bills. It took me a bit of thinking as to who would have such a heart and I thought that would be something she would do. I approached her one morning in the staff room and asked if she was my guardian angel. She had a twinkle in her eye and that grin that turned into that warm smile. I knew right away it was her. We shared a hug and I told her that when she went to heaven I was going to hang onto her shirt tails. I guess that not the way it works but I believe she had those wings long before now and I know she will be true to her word and be a guardian angel for all of us.
You were so lucky to have such a wonderful lady in your life. Love to you all

Don Fairweather

Dear Tom and Family,

I was very saddened to learn of Alanna’s passing. I had the pleasure of attending both high school and university with Alanna and I always admired her joyful spirit and sense of humour. She obviously lived a fulfilling life centred around her children and grandchildren. Please accept my deepest sympathies during your time of sorrow.

Sincerely,

Don Fairweather
